Houston Tops List of America's Healthiest Housing Markets for 2009

March 04, 2009

Builder Magazine has released a report naming the top 15 healthiest housing markets in the USA, and Houston ranks number one.

Along with Hanley Wood Market Research firm, they created a metric that analyzes the top 75 housing markets in the country, ranking them based on population trends and job growth, the big drivers of housing demand. They also examined what's happened with home prices and the rate building permits, which may be the single best ongoing indicator of builder confidence in a market. The metric attempts to measure markets and determine the best and least potential.  Not surprisingly, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas lead the list.  The Houston market fared well due to steady job growth and less exaggerated home price increases over the past 5 years.
