NEWSWEEK recently released the 2010 list of America’s Best High Schools, naming four Katy ISD high schools among top 1,622 schools in the nation. The four Katy ISD high schools ranked this year are: Cinco Ranch High School (No. 478), Seven Lakes High School (No. 689), Taylor High School (No. 982) and Katy High School (No. 1387).

The schools listed in the America’s Best High Schools 2010 report represent only six percent of all American public high schools. Rankings are determined by a combination of the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge (AICE) tests given at the schools, compared to the number of graduating seniors.

stanley-elementaryStanley Elementary’s PTA raised over $30,000 at its Stetsons and Stilettos for the Stampede fall fundraiser Oct. 9 at Cross Creek Ranch. Radio personality Kevin Kline from the New 93Q Morning Zoo served as the celebrity master of ceremonies.

Cross Creek Ranch and Trendmaker Homes hosted the event at their welcome center. Decked out in everything from western attire to stilettos, guests enjoyed food donated from six local restaurants with live music from Gene Neptune and Joe Kilpatrick. The auction included six highly sought after live auction items and over 150 silent auction items donated from local businesses and various Stanley parents and faculty.

“It was amazing to see all the volunteers work tirelessly to make this event possible in just a few short months,” said PTA President Courtney Doyle. The money raised will benefit the students at Stanley Elementary, which is Katy ISD’s newest school. The campus opened this past August to students living in Cross Creek Ranch, Westheimer Lakes North and Cinco Ranch Southwest.

Seven Lakes High School and Woodcreek Elementary have earned the highest possible recognition in the 2009 Accountability Ratings released by the Texas Education Agency.  Both schools rated exemplary, the highest rating of the four assigned by the TEA.  Exemplary ratings were earned by only 25.8% of the Texas public schools in the report.

To earn exemplary ratings, the campus must have at least 90% of it's students meet the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) standard score on subjects such as Reading, English, Math Writing, Social Studies, and Science.  Both Seven Lakes High School and Woodcreek Junior High jumped from "recognized" in 2008 to "exemplary" in 2009.

We are proud of the students and teachers who helped reach this standard.  For more on the education options at Cross Creek Ranch, click here.

Newsweek Ranks Seven Lakes Among Top High Schools in the NationSeven Lakes High School has ranked among the top 1,500 (6 percent) out of the approximately 27,000 public high schools in the nation in a recent Newsweek feature.  Four other Katy schools were also included on the list.  They include Katy, Taylor, and Cinco Ranch.  Seven Lakes ranked the highest among the Katy High Schools, at 403.

The magazine ranks public high schools annually based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors.  Here is how Newsweek clarifies the formula:
