Seven Lakes High School and Woodcreek Elementary have earned the highest possible recognition in the 2009 Accountability Ratings released by the Texas Education Agency. Both schools rated exemplary, the highest rating of the four assigned by the TEA. Exemplary ratings were earned by only 25.8% of the Texas public schools in the report.
To earn exemplary ratings, the campus must have at least 90% of it's students meet the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) standard score on subjects such as Reading, English, Math Writing, Social Studies, and Science. Both Seven Lakes High School and Woodcreek Junior High jumped from "recognized" in 2008 to "exemplary" in 2009.
We are proud of the students and teachers who helped reach this standard. For more on the education options at Cross Creek Ranch, click here.
Seven Lakes High School has ranked among the top 1,500 (6 percent) out of the approximately 27,000 public high schools in the nation in a recent Newsweek feature. Four other Katy schools were also included on the list. They include Katy, Taylor, and Cinco Ranch. Seven Lakes ranked the highest among the Katy High Schools, at 403.
The magazine ranks public high schools annually based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors. Here is how Newsweek clarifies the formula:
On Monday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9182 (Katy, Texas) honored fallen servicemen and women with a taditional Memorial Day ceremony held at Magnolia Cemetery.
The ceremony started with a flag raising and speeches given by Katy Mayor Don Elder, Jr. and congessman Michael McCaul. Speeches were followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and 21-gun salute. Taps was played on the bugle at the end of the ceremony.
Cross Creek Ranch thanks and supports our troops who dedicate their lives to preserve and protect our freedom. Get more information on VFW Post 9182 here.
Starting April 18, four new lanes between Highway 6 and Loop 610 become fully operational. These managed lanes include two lanes in each direction that replace the single, reversible HOV lane. The new lanes offer more reliable travel times for METRO buses and carpoolers, while making any unused lane capacity available to single drivers who pay a toll for the potential travel-time savings.

What once was a quaint rice farming area at the lucky point of a railroad crossing, is now its own city, just over 100 years later.
BusinessWeek recently ranked “
America’s Biggest Boomtowns“, and Katy is number two.
Along with the Gadberry Group, a business location company, communities in every state were identified as experiencing the largest growth. Results teetered along our questionable economy, as “the boomtowns of this decade are not booming so much in the last couple years” (William H. Frey, demographer at the Brookings Institiution in Washington, D.C.).
Thousands of birds migrate to Texas for the winter, but there are some that stay year-round, and if you live here long enough, you can recognize their noises and the way they swoop through the sky. Here is a list of some of the birds you may see in your area.
Grasshopper Sparrow - Living in Texas, you’re bound to see a sparrow. This species, however, is named for its buzzy sound, like the noise a grasshopper makes. Feeding mostly on insects, it can be seen flying short distances before dropping out of sight into tall grass.
