2nd Annual Michael T. McCann Memorial Bike RideJoin us at the Union Chappel Vineyards/Bar O Ranch on Saturday, May 15th when Fulshear will hold its highly anticipated 2nd annual Michael T. McCann Memorial Bike Ride throughout our great community.

The ride will feature a 63, 43, and 21 mile route, as well as a Pedal Pusher 3-mile ride for families with children of all ages to enjoy.

All proceeds of this family event will directly benefit the beautification of our community, as he so cherished.

Dr. Mike McCann passed away after a long, heroic battle with cancer in 2007. He will be remembered as a family man, veterinarian, sailor, grape grower, friend and mentor, who also served as chairman of the Fulshear Planning Commission for many years, dedicating much of his time to the development and growth of the city. An avid bicyclist, he spent many hours each week cycling all while undergoing treatments, a true testament to his strength and abilities.

He was an ambassador and statesman who epitomized what Fulshear means to many. A friendly town in a beautiful region, that if we all work together, will grow into a prosperous community that cherishes the simple, good things in life.

Bike for Mike is proud to support Fulshear, and will annually select a special project specifically for the beautification of the community. We look forward to seeing you in the vineyard for the after ride celebration!  For more information, visit BikeforMikeFulshear.com

The rainclouds were rolling in, but we somehow felt incredibly safe among the many rescue, medical and law enforcement professionals gathered at the Welcome Center during "Play" it Safe Day.  Chidlren were able to experience what it is like inside state-of-the-art emergency vehicles, with guided tours with real professionals who live the life every day.  As you can see from the photos, learning can be a lot of fun when you have a huge moonwalk and free pizza for everyone.

On Friday, August 21st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., bring the kids and join us at the Cross Creek Ranch Welcome Center to learn valuable safety tips from local police officers, fire fighters and public service workers during "Play it Safe Day".  Children will experience and learn by exploring an on-site fire truck, ambulance, and Life Flight Helicopter, all present for the event.

Rescue and safety professionals will be there to give tours and answer questions.  Fulshear Police will be present and providing child ID kits for parents who would like to register their children in their safety program. All guests will also enjoy free pizza, drinks, snacks and giveaways. It is sure to be an unforgettable event for children (and adults).

The Birds of Katy & Fulshear

Tagged in: Recreation , Katy , Fulshear

Birds of Fulshear and the Katy PrairieThousands of birds migrate to Texas for the winter, but there are some that stay year-round, and if you live here long enough, you can recognize their noises and the way they swoop through the sky. Here is a list of some of the birds you may see in your area.

Grasshopper Sparrow - Living in Texas, you’re bound to see a sparrow. This species, however, is named for its buzzy sound, like the noise a grasshopper makes. Feeding mostly on insects, it can be seen flying short distances before dropping out of sight into tall grass.

Brownie Troop in Fulshear TexasTwenty-three Brownies traveled from Fulshear to Katy to visit residents at Carriage Inn during the facility’s holiday celebration for friends and family.  The Brownies performed three sets of the Huggins Elementary 3rd Grade Christmas Music Program for the residents and their guests.  This was the third venue for these girls to perform the “show”; first, at school for their classmates, second at Fulshear Friday Nights for their community, and finally at Carriage Inn.

The troop is led by Audra Brorsen , Becky Daves, Joyce Kristiansson and activity director Amber Landis.  “Our goal is to raise good citizens” said Daves.  “We like to have the girls participate in a service project once a month.”
