Newsweek Ranks Seven Lakes High School Among Top Public High Schools in the US.

July 21, 2009

Seven Lakes High School has ranked among the top 1,500 (6 percent) out of the approximately 27,000 public high schools in the nation in a recent Newsweek feature.  Four other Katy schools were also included on the list.  They include Katy, Taylor, and Cinco Ranch.  Seven Lakes ranked the highest among the Katy High Schools, at 403.

The magazine ranks public high schools annually based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors.  Here is how Newsweek clarifies the formula:

We take the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school in May, and divide by the number of seniors graduating in May or June. All public schools that NEWSWEEK researchers Amy Novak and Dan Brillman and I found that achieved a ratio of at least 1.000, meaning they had as many tests in 2008 as they had graduates, are put on the list on the NEWSWEEK Web site, Newsweek.com.

Congratulations to all of the Katy area high schools who made the cut. Of course, you must take into account a variety of factors (aside from test results) to determine "top schools", but Cross Creek Ranch is located in the Seven Lakes High School zone, and we could not be happier.
