The "A+" included in the Katy Independent School District's logo is well deserved according to a new ranking of Houston-area public high schools.

As part of the launch for its newest K-12 site, the research site Niche ranked the top public and private schools in the Houston area. Seven Lakes and Cinco Ranch made the public school list which also included magnet programs. Only three schools in the top 10 can be found inside of Beltway 8.

Four public high schools recently on included on Newsweek's ranking of the top 500 schools in America also appeared on the Niche list. The top 10 private schools list is split evenly between secular and religious schools.

The Academics grade issued by Niche is the most important factor in the ranking, with a 50 percent weight. Health and safety, student culture and diversity, survey responses and teachers grades also play into a school's ranking.

Each school on the list has a profile with in-depth data containing reviews, test scores, grades, polls and educational outcomes including popular colleges and majors for graduates.
