Proposed Parkway Will Get Everyone Moving

August 08, 2017

Good news for Cross Creek Ranch residents — the Texas Heritage Parkway, a new proposed roadway, could really get things moving in north Fort Bend County.

The 6.5-mile, $48.8-million thoroughfare would connect the Westpark Tollway (FM 1093) to Interstate 10, enhancing mobility along FM 1463 and FM 359.

Unique features of the new roadway will include Fort Bend’s first roundabouts. Used extensively in other parts of the country and in Europe, roundabouts allow traffic to flow without coming to a full stop — a more effective way of moving traffic.

Other features will include u-turns and dedicated acceleration and deceleration lanes, driveway spacing requirements and an accompanying hike-and-bike trail with grade separations at street crossings for its entire length. Landscape elements will be incorporated within the median to facilitate drainage.

Construction on the Texas Heritage Parkway could begin within the year and will take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
