This year's registration has closed, but there's still a strawful lot of fun to be had at the festival. Come join us!
Scarecrows will be judged for creativity and originality, with the top-three creations receiving cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250, respectively. PLUS, get reimbursed $100 just for building your scarecrow! Read the full contest rules.
Building a scarecrow is easy!
To create the frame, nail two 2" X 4" or 1"x2" wooden boards together into a cross so that the shorter board is around 8" from the top of the longer board. The longer board should be anywhere between 4' and 9'.
Dress your scarecrow with a shirt of your choice, using the horizontal part of your frame for his arms, then stuff the shirt with hay or any other stuffing of your choice.
If your scarecrow needs legs, stuff a pair of pants, tie them off at the bottom, and pin the waistband to the bottom of the shirt.
If you want hands for your scarecrow, stuff a pair of gloves and attach them to the sleeves of your scarecrow's shirt.
For feet, simply tuck the bottom of the scarecrow's pants into a pair of shoes or boots of your choice and secure them using string or hot glue.
Feel free to add accessories such as hats, scarves, and anything else to make your scarecrow as unique as possible and have fun with your theme!
