Lamar Consolidated ISD Leader Named 2025 TASB Superintendent of the Year

September 19, 2025

Education is important to Cross Creek Ranch families, so imagine our delight when we learned that Dr. Roosevelt Nivens of Lamar Consolidated ISD (LCISD) was recently named Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).

The SOTY program was started in 1984 to recognize the extraordinary work of superintendents across Texas in building strong public schools so students have every opportunity to succeed.

Dr. Nivens was selected for the top honor from a group of five state finalists based on his innovative approach to learning, his support for teachers as the key to improving instruction and student outcomes, and his recognition of public education as a way to change generations. The award included a $5,000 check and a custom Balfour ring.

Dr. Nivens began his 29-year education career as a teacher in Dallas ISD after earning a bachelor’s degree in science from Liberty University. He went on to earn a master’s degree and doctorate in education from Texas A&M-Commerce.  He joined LCIS in 2021 after a stint as superintendent of Community ISD.

Dr. Nivens is no stranger to winning awards. His accolades include Region 10 Superintendent of the Year and being named National Superintendent of the Year by the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE). He was also named the 2022 Latino Serving Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS). In 2024, he was elected Vice President of the Texas Association of School Administrators.

We are so pleased to have Dr. Nivens at the helm of LCISD. We know our young residents will grow and thrive under his direction.
