Gear Up for Summer Camp at Cross Creek Ranch

May 03, 2016

Area children can channel their inner artist, roboticist or scientist beginning June 6 at a variety of summer camps to be held at Cross Creek Ranch.

Registration is open for camps covering a range of topics from art and theater to robotics and space exploration. All camps are open to the public and will be held at Cross Creek Ranch’s community center, 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane.

While camps primarily are aimed at children ages 5 to 12, a Drill Team Prep Camp, offered through Arts Fulshear, is for ages 11 to 15. Students in this camp will learn the skills necessary to perform with their local high school drill team. The camp runs from 1-4 p.m., June 20-24. The cost is $125. Register online at http://artsfulshear.org/calendar.asp?pageid=2&calid=541.

Art and theater camps also will be offered through Arts Fulshear, a non-profit organization that provides and supports local arts and arts education.

Two art sessions are available. The first, a “Fun in the Sun” camp for children ages 5 to 11, runs June 6-10. Children ages 5 to 10 can explore a variety of art media such as tie-dye and weaving from Aug. 1-5. In addition, a pajama party-themed musical theater camp is available for 5- to 10-year-old thespians, July 25-29. All camps run from 1-4 p.m. and are $175 per session. For more information or to register, contact programs@artsfulshear.org or visit www.artsfulshear.org.

America’s Robotic Academy returns to Cross Creek Ranch this summer, inviting children ages 6 to 12 to explore basic engineering and design concepts while using LEGO Technic parts to build and battle working robots. Two sessions are available: “Olympic Robot Games,” June 13-17 and “Wild and Wacky Walkers,” July 18-22. Both camps are from 1-4 p.m. and cost $175 per session. A non-refundable $25 deposit and a $4.50 registration fee are required. To register, contact Deanna Johnson at deanna.johnson@roboticsacademy.com or visit www.roboticsacademy.com.

Budding scientists ages 6 to 12 can learn about the wonders of space or pretend to be science professionals at two Nutty Scientist camps. From June 27 to July 1, kids can “Blast Off to Space Camp” where they will explore planets, train to be astronauts and build rockets. From July 11-15, they can channel their inner geneticist, nutritionist or ecologist during the “Scientist in Me” camp.

Camp sessions are from noon to 3 p.m. and cost $165 per camp. A 10-percent-off sibling discount is available. For more information on the camps and registration, contact Sarita Menon at fortbend@nuttyscientists.com or visit www.nuttyscientists.com.
