University of Houston Brings Higher Education to Katy

May 29, 2018

Good things are coming to Katy in the form of the University of Houston’s new Katy campus that will offer Katy and Fulshear students easy access to a tier one education.

Plans for the state-of-the-art campus have been in the works for the last four to five years. It will be located along Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway on 46 acres of land purchased with $46.8 million in capital construction bonds. The new campus is slated to open in 2019 and will serve up to 10,000 students. A groundbreaking event is planned for this month.

Construction on an 80,000-square-foot academic facility academic building is scheduled to begin in June. It will house programs from the colleges of engineering and nursing at the flagship UH campus and include general purpose classrooms, engineering studios and a nursing simulation center. Undergraduate engineering degrees that will be offered at the campus include computer engineering, construction engineering and systems engineering; graduate degrees will be offered in the subsea program, petroleum engineering, environmental engineering, power systems and corrosion programs.
