Katy ISD Named Top Houston School District

August 15, 2019

The 2020 Niche.com list of the best school districts in Houston is out and Katy ISD topped the list.

Each year, the online research service releases rankings of the top school districts in the nation. For the 2020 Niche Best School Districts list, Katy ISD took the No. 1 spot in Houston with an overall A+ rating. It was ranked No. 14 in Texas.

Using the most recent available data from the U.S. Department of Education, Niche compared test scores, graduation rates and SAT/ACT scores to compile the list. Rankings were also based off of student and parent ratings of district campuses from Niche users.

A district's grade was awarded based on a set of "grades" that include academics, teachers, culture and diversity, parent and student surveys, health and safety, resources and facilities, clubs and activities, and sports. The academics grade carried the most overall weight, accounting for 50 percent of a district's overall ranking.

Katy ISD received A ratings in academics, clubs and activities, teachers and diversity. The district scored an A+ for college preparation. You can read about it here.

Katy ISD is one of two outstanding districts zoned to Cross Creek Ranch. Three Katy ISD schools – Randolph Elementary, Campbell Elementary and Adams Junior High (which opened this month) are located within our community. An onsite high school will open next year.

Lamar CISD, our other school district, ranked in the top 20 on the Niche.com list. Students zoned to this district attend Huggins Elementary, Roberts Middle School (also newly opened) Leaman Junior High and Fulshear High School.
