Rainbow Room Builds Self-Esteem

November 12, 2021

For children to be successful in life they need to build self-esteem. That can be difficult for children who have been removed from a home due to abuse or neglect. Often, they lack even the most basic necessities. Combatting this lack and building self-confidence is the task of the Fort Bend Rainbow Room.

The Rainbow Room is just that, a room filled with emergency supplies such as diapers, formula, hygiene items, school supplies and more that caseworkers can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week for children and adults. It is located within the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) building in Rosenberg.

The non-profit was established in 1998 after First Lady Laura Bush founded the first Rainbow Room in Dallas. Up until that point, caseworkers often used their own funds to meet the needs of abused and neglected children that were not covered by the state.

Only new snacks, diapers, school supplies, clothes, toiletries, toys and other items are stocked. The Rainbow Room philosophy is that getting new items rather than second-hand ones helps build self-esteem, especially in school where children can be mocked for not having the same items as their peers.

Last year, the Rainbow Room provided 199 children with school supplies, 1,674 with emergency supplies and 612 with holiday gifts. Abused and neglected adults receive aid, as well. The APS Christmas Project provides them with care packages containing needed items as well as holiday gifts.

The Rainbow Room has helped many children and adults throughout the Fort Bend area, but there is always a need, and you can help.

The Cross Creek Ranch Give Back, Build Hope campaign will help six designated charities throughout the months of November and December. For each home sold in our community, we will make a monetary donation to Family Hope, Rainbow Room, Texana Center, Abigail’s Place, Brookwood Community and Fort Bend PAWS.

Even if you aren’t planning to purchase a new home, you can provide much-needed items to any of these charities. Simply purchase an item on the organization’s wish list and drop it off at the Cross Creek Ranch Welcome Center, 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane, during its designated month.

In November, you can donate to Family Hope, Rainbow Room and Texana Center. In December, you can help Abigail’s Place, Brookwood Community and Fort Bend PAWS.

As an added bonus, if you purchase your new home in November or December you will be entered into a drawing for $3,000.

The Rainbow Room is building a brighter future for children. Won’t you help?
